Planted Doubles Production Volume in Kemptthal
Kemptthal, Switzerland, May 19, 2022 – The Swiss foodtech start-up Planted, known for alternative proteins, continues to focus on its home location of Switzerland and is investing in expanding capacity at its production site in Kemptthal. Planted was able to double its production capacity through the investment. The location will become the largest Swiss and most modern European production facility for plant-based meat. Since May, Planted has been opening its doors on selected Saturdays to innovation enthusiasts and those hungry for knowledge.
The demand for environmentally friendly food has risen rapidly, especially in the last two years. Planted produces meat from alternative proteins, focusing on the perfect bite. Inspired by nature, the company pioneers with a novel biostructuring approach that combines protein structuring and biotechnology. Using proprietary technologies, Planted structures alternative proteins into any size and shape to achieve perfect texturization. In addition, Planted is committed to using only natural ingredients and no additives in its products. Research and production have been taking place at the Kemptthal site since 2020. The plant is steadily gaining importance and, with the current expansion, is developing into the largest Swiss and most modern European production facility for plant-based meat.

Green Technology for Kemptthal
Green technology played a central role in the construction of the new plant. The site has an energy recovery system. This system allows the energy generated in the heating and cooling processes of production and air conditioning to be reused. In the future, Planted will even be able to supply the energy that it does not need itself to the developing district heating network of the "The Valley" industrial park, which is being developed by Mettler2Invest. This will greatly reduce the energy consumption of the plant and the site and minimize the consumption of resources. Planted proves once again that innovation can achieve a new sustainability standard in production.
A glimpse into the future
planted. is available in restaurants and retail outlets in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, and recently also in the UK, as well as in its own Europe-wide webshop. Planted products, which are made from various protein sources (peas, oats, sunflowers), currently include: planted.™chicken, planted.™pulled, planted.™kebab and planted.™schnitzel. Planted is continuing to gear up. The company is convinced that biostructured proteins will surpass animal meat in terms of taste, sustainability, health, productivity and price in the future. Further office buildings and research laboratories are already under construction at the Kemptthal site.
