3 metric tons of planted.chicken seeds must be saved from going to waste

Kemptthal, August 2, 2021 — Planted has 3 metric tons of surplusplanted.chicken 2kg.” To ensure that the plant-based chicken doesn’t have to be thrown away, the Swiss food manufacturer is launching a rescue campaign in partnership with Too Good To Go.

Save food and try planted.chicken

On Saturday, August 14, 2021, users of the Too Good To Go app can purchase 2-kg packages of planted.chicken for 11.90 francs (instead of 79.50 francs) at Planted’s headquarters in Kemptthal.

Here's how consumers can participate: Download the Too Good To Go app for free from the App Store or Google Play, open it and register. Under the "Browse" tab, enter "planted." in the search bar, reserve and pay for the offer between Monday, August 2, 2021, and Friday, August 13, 2021, and pick it up on August 14, 2021 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in Kemptthal ZH. P.S. Important: If you can't find Planted on the Too Good To Go app, change your location to "Lindau."

Anyone who purchases a serving planted.chicken through the Too Good To Go app gets to enjoy a product that isn’t available in retail stores or the Planted web shop. Plus, every bite counts twice: Thanks to this rescue initiative, none of the environmental resources planted.chicken to produce planted.chicken go to waste. What’s more, by choosing plant-based chicken over animal-based chicken, you’re saving animal lives and helping the environment, since its production generates 74% fewer greenhouse gases than animal-based chicken. The product’s best-by date, provided the cold chain remains unbroken, is September 30, 2021.

“The temporary closure of restaurants and the mandatory work-from-home policy in Switzerland made it difficult for us to sell the entire batch of planted.chicken , which was produced exclusively for cafeterias and the foodservice industry,”explains Tilo Hubmann, Head of Sales Switzerland at Planted. He adds:“With Too Good To Go, we’ve found a convenient and quick solution to ensure that the leftover planted.chicken ends up on people’s plates instead of in the trash—while also allowing consumers to enjoy a delicious plant-based meat made from 100% natural ingredients.”

Food waste is a more relevant topic than ever

More than a third of all food produced is wasted. This contributes significantly to the climate crisis: According to the FAO, food waste is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse gases. This is because numerous resources - such as for transport, processing or cooling - are used on the way from the field to the plate.
